Summary

"Captains Courageous: A Story of the Grand Banks" by Rudyard Kipling is a tale from the late 1800s, telling of Harvey Cheyne, a pampered kid from a rich family, who takes an unexpected tumble into the ocean and is pulled from the waves by some fishermen. It's a story concerning thrilling experiences, personal development, and the differences between an easy life and one of toil, as Harvey finds himself in the tough environment of fishing for a living.. Beginning with a scene on a boat headed to the Grand Banks, the book quickly puts Harvey – a rude and rich teen – in the spotlight. This is the start of Harvey learning some hard lessons about life and the importance of working hard after he's saved by a fisherman called Disko Troop. After being saved, Harvey has to deal with being sick at sea, being surprised by a different way of life, and no longer being spoiled; the start of the story hints at Harvey changing as a person, as he learns to value hard work and being humble with the crew of the "We're Here" ship.
