Summary

"Montezuma's Daughter" by H. Rider Haggard is a historical fiction novel that chronicles the extraordinary life of Thomas Wingfield, an Englishman caught in the clash between Europe and the Aztec Empire. As Thomas honors a promise to Queen Elizabeth by recounting his past, the story unfolds to reveal his younger self seeking revenge for his mother's death at the hands of the Spaniard, Juan de Garcia, leading him on a path filled with love, loss, cultural conflict, and adventure in ancient Mexico, all while balancing relationships with his English wife and his children from his marriage to an Aztec princess, the daughter of Montezuma.

About the Author

Sir Henry Rider Haggard was an English writer of adventure fiction romances set in exotic locations, predominantly Africa, and a pioneer of the lost world literary genre. He was also involved in land reform throughout the British Empire. His stories, situated at the lighter end of Victorian literature and including the eighteen Allan Quatermain stories beginning with King Solomon's Mines, continue to be popular and influential.
