Summary

"From Sand Hill to Pine" by Bret Harte is a late 1800s fiction that starts with a stagecoach, led by Yuba Bill, stopped by a fallen tree, hinting at something dangerous coming because of an old stagecoach robbery from half a year ago. The story introduces us to Ned Brice, the careful expressman, and a group of miners and workers as they deal with the delay. Things get more mysterious when a stranger shows up, wanting to help, but making everyone wonder if they're safe. Suspicion grows among the passengers, made stronger by the memory of the robbery. Later, we meet more people at a cabin, and the story balances jokes with suspense as they connect with a young girl linked to the well-known outlaw, Snapshot Harry, setting the scene for future problems and making readers eager to see what happens next.
