Summary

"A Word, Only a Word — Volume 03" by Georg Ebers is a historical story set in 16th-century Spain. It tells the story of Ulrich, a young artist, as he finds his way through the art world. The story looks at big ideas like dealing with death, wanting to be a great artist, and the relationships between teachers and students, especially between Ulrich and the famous painter Antonio Moor. Ulrich's first experience with death changes how he sees life and his art. When he goes with Moor to Madrid, he sees how famous Moor is becoming and the fancy welcomes he gets from the Spanish royal court. The story also shows how Ulrich becomes friends with Sophonisba Anguisciola, another well-known painter. As Ulrich gets ready to start his own path as an artist, the book explores themes of loyalty, the hard parts of being an artist, and how people's loyalty can change within the exciting but risky world of the royal court.
