Summary

"Westward Ho!" by Charles Kingsley is a historical fiction that puts readers right in the middle of the exciting Elizabethan era of exploration. Our hero, a young man named Amyas Leigh from Devon, is full of dreams of sailing the ocean and battling the Spanish, all sparked by tales of famous adventurers like Sir Francis Drake. As Amyas chases his goals, he meets interesting people, including the unforgettable John Oxenham, who push him toward his own grand journey. With its vivid scenes of towns by the sea and the chatter in local pubs, it doesn't take long for readers to feel as though they are right beside Amyas as he grows from a boy full of hope to a seafarer. The story fills them with a sense of adventure combined with good old pride.
