"The Submarine Boys on Duty" by Victor G. Durham is a story set in the early 1900s about two ambitious young boys, Jack Benson and Hal Hastings, who arrive in Dunhaven seeking work on a groundbreaking submarine. Arriving in Dunhaven, they find a submarine nicknamed "Pollard's Folly" being constructed at the local boatyard and they try to become part of its construction. In their pursuit, they face obstacles such as getting into the good graces of the townspeople and workmen and a local bully named Dan Jaggers, the foreman, Joshua Owen. Through their innovation and persistence, they're able to score jobs at the boatyard and they move closer to their dreams of impacting the world of underwater technology.
