Summary

"The Adventure of the Devil's Foot" by Arthur Conan Doyle is a suspenseful crime story set in the Victorian era, focusing on the brilliant detective Sherlock Holmes and his loyal friend Dr. Watson as they unravel a bizarre and heartbreaking event called "The Cornish Horror," uncovering hidden family secrets and dangerous intentions. The plot centers around revenge, mental instability, and an unusual poison that terrifies its victims. The story begins with Holmes and Watson seeking relaxation in a Cornish cottage, but their peace is disrupted when they are called to investigate the Tregennis family tragedy: after a peculiar evening playing cards, two brothers and their sister are discovered in a state of horror, with the sister dead. Their investigation reveals a strained relationship between Mortimer Tregennis and his family, suggesting a possible motive for the crime. Holmes figures out that the cause of the terror is a deadly poison made from a plant known as "devil's-foot," which can induce intense fear and death. Finally, the mystery is explained with the discovery that Dr. Leon Sterndale, a close friend of the family, sought revenge on Mortimer for the death of his loved one Brenda, resulting in a powerful ending full of strong feelings and moral questions.
