"The Seats of the Mighty" by Gilbert Parker is a historical fiction story set during the Seven Years' War that follows Captain Robert Moray as he gets caught between the British and French fight for Canada; the story looks at ideas like love of country and difficult choices between love, honor, and friendships through Moray's trouble with Alixe Duvarney and the evil plotting of Monsieur Doltaire. He starts as a prisoner in Quebec, where he learns of General Braddock's death, igniting his loyalty to England, and becomes a part of Doltaire's dangerous game, who has plans for him.
