The Money Master, Complete

"The Money Master" by Gilbert Parker is a story set among French Canadians, where we journey through the life of Jean Jacques Barbille who is a miller and businessman. The book shows his good qualities mixed with some bad as he balances his desires, affection, and sad moments, exposing who he is as a person while facing what society expects of him and his own mistakes. At the beginning, Jean Jacques Barbille is doing well at his Manor Cartier, but trouble arises from choices he makes based on his feelings and who he is in love with. When he travels to France, we see what he wants in life and what he worries about, especially after he meets Carmen Dolores, a Spanish person escaping problems. Their meeting suggests a complicated connection that will bring them together but also cause problems as they live in an unpredictable world filled with hidden issues within the society.
