"The Common Man" by Mack Reynolds is a science fiction story from the early 1960s where scientists try to find out what makes a regular person tick by making him invisible; they recruit Donald Crowley for tests using a special serum. After Crowley becomes invisible, he goes on adventures that show who he really is and how much he wants to be in charge. The scientist, including Dr. Frederick Braun, Patricia O'Gara, and Ross Wooley, realize the experiment is out of control when Crowley starts using his invisibility to get what he wants, teaming up with criminals and dreaming of political power. This makes them think hard about what's right and wrong, and what happens when people have too much freedom, all shown through Crowley's journey from an average guy to someone who could cause big problems.
