Summary

"Getting Together" by Ian Hay is a discussion from the time of World War I that looks at the bond between Britain and the United States, mainly through a conversation. The story focuses on talking about what Britain and America both care about and what they should do together during the war, hoping they can understand each other better. A British person talks about how the war has changed what it means to be British, especially how people have started to feel responsible and patriotic. An American replies by pointing out the U.S. has helped, even though it was trying to stay out of the war at the time, and this character wants their support to be recognized. In the end, they both decide that understanding and respecting what each country does is super important and that they can build a stronger friendship by working together for freedom and what's right against the bad things happening in the world.
