The saga begins with Barbox's arrival at Mugby Junction on a stormy night, creating a somber and puzzling mood. Through humorous and somber exchanges with a guard and a porter called Lamps, Barbox attempts to settle in while confronting the ghosts of yesterday. His musings reveal a deep yearning and a reflection on chances not taken, paving the way for a journey of personal discovery as he contemplates new beginnings stemming from the junction.
