"Hi Jolly!" by Jim Kjelgaard is an adventure story about a young camel driver named Ali, his journey, and the dangers he has to face. This narrative shows Ali starting from a dangerous position in the Syrian desert. Ali's goal is to go to Mecca, and is driven by both experience with camels and a desire for respect when he reaches his destination. Ali witnesses the destruction of a caravan by raiders, and is forced to move forward. He discovers and ends up naming a grand riding camel Ben Akbar. This is the start of a deeper story of bravery , loyalty and survival as he deals with challenges of bandits as heads to his pilgrimage.
