"Nan Sherwood at Rose Ranch; Or, The Old Mexican's Treasure" by Annie Roe Carr is a story of friendship, and finding treasure. It follows Nan Sherwood and her pals from Lakeview Hall as they greet a new school year. The girls are instantly curious about Rhoda Hammond, and a newcomer to the school from Rose Ranch. There's even some not-so-friendly hazing that tests the girls' friendships. Rhoda finds it hard to fit in at first. But, she is a strong girl who has spent most of her life near Rose Ranch. Rhoda's character grows as she navigates the pressures of fitting in, old traditions and the promise of hidden riches, resulting in a blend of humor, and drama among the girls.
