Dorothy Dale's engagement

"Dorothy Dale's Engagement" by Margaret Penrose is an early 20th-century tale about two young friends, Dorothy Dale and Tavia Travers, as they seize an opportunity to explore New York City unchaperoned. This journey marks a significant step in their lives, filled with shopping and unexpected encounters, most notably with a captivating young man named G. Knapp, who throws Dorothy's well-ordered world into romantic disarray. From the moment they arrive in the bustling city, the girls plunge into a series of humorous and chaotic situations, including a helpful gesture from G. Knapp that sparks a connection. As Tavia’s lighthearted and teasing nature contrasts with Dorothy’s more reserved demeanor, their adventures take a turn when Tavia loses her handbag, leading to unforeseen problems and weaving a thread of mystery and budding love into their city escapade.

Margaret Penrose was a house pseudonym used by the Stratemeyer Syndicate as the author of three girls' book series published by Cupples & Leon.
