Swords Reluctant

"Swords Reluctant" by Max Pemberton is a story from the early 1900s that shows Gabrielle Silvester, a minister's daughter, coming back to England after being in America. The book looks at ideas about staying peaceful, fighting wars, and wanting to move up in the world. When Gabrielle gets back, her time in America with her father, who was trying to bring peace, changes how she sees things. Back in her hometown, she starts to want more from life and has big dreams because of what she saw on her trip. Her dad talks a lot about trying to make peace and about Mr. Faber, a very rich man who thinks war is just part of life. Gabrielle has to decide if she'll stick to her old beliefs or chase after something new. This sets up the main idea of the book: Can people really find peace, or is it just human nature to fight?
