Summary

"The Moon Maid" by Edgar Rice Burroughs is a science fiction story that travels to far-off places. It centers around Julian 5th and his adventures involving the Earth's Moon and the life it holds. Woven through the book are ideas of rebirth, taking adventurous first steps into the unknown, and challenges in dealing with very different kinds of beings. At first, the story takes place in a time where the people of Earth are celebrating a time of peace following wars. They are also rejoicing in their discovery of communication with the planet Mars. The main character, Julian 5th, comes from a long line of military heroes. He tells of remembering past lives in a world far ahead of our current time on Earth. Setting off on a daring mission, Julian along with his crew boards the spaceship "The Barsoom" with intensions to explore the Moon; however, problems occur when one of the crew shows signs of mutiny. Soon, both wonders and danger await Julian as they journey to the Moon and begin to explore it’s otherworldly peoples.
