Summary

"Friend and Foe: Or, the breastplate of righteousness" by A. L. O. E., is a historical story set in the Victorian era, exploring themes of honesty and doing what's right. It tells the story of Norah Peele, a young servant, and her journey to live by her principles, especially when faced with tough choices. Norah, after a conversation with her Uncle Ned, makes a decision to live honestly and with integrity. She struggles with temptations presented by her friend, Sophy, who represents worldly pleasures and a less strict way of life. As the story unfolds, Norah changes from an uncertain girl to a strong, upright character who chooses righteousness, even when it means giving up fun and friendships, and in the end, she proves that doing right is more important than fitting in.
