The Black Cat (Vol. I, No. 2, November 1895)

"The Black Cat (Vol. I, No. 2, November 1895)" by Various, is a compilation of short stories from various authors published in a magazine format, and the initial story, "A Calaveras Hold-Up", introduces us to Billy Owen, a man planning to rob a stagecoach, all while he reflects on his life where themes of suspense, adventure, and romance meet as he thinks about Rudy Field, a woman he loves. Billy anticipates the stagecoach as recollections of his life contrast his thug-like past and his feelings for a girl. The collection promises a blend of narrative voices, reflecting the literary styles and focuses of the late 19th century.
