"Then Marched the Brave" by Harriet T. Comstock is a story set during the American Revolutionary War, following Andy McNeal, a young boy who wants to be brave and help his country despite having a limp. His mother, Janie, worries that Andy cannot do much, especially after hearing tragic news about a local soldier, until Andy's determination grows stronger with the help of his friend, Ruth.
