"Then Marched the Brave" by Harriet T. Comstock is a story set during the American Revolutionary War, following Andy McNeal, a young boy who wants to be brave and help his country despite having a limp. His mother, Janie, worries that Andy cannot do much, especially after hearing tragic news about a local soldier, until Andy's determination grows stronger with the help of his friend, Ruth. Together, they secretly journey to meet important people, like George Washington, and the opening sets the scene for a tale of someone finding out who they are and proving their bravery.
