Summary

** "The Sunken Garden, and Other Poems" by Walter De la Mare is an assortment of poetry from the early 1900s that examines a range of feelings and topics. The poems share the loveliness of the outdoors, heavy feelings, and tough parts of being human. De la Mare writes with pretty language and lots of descriptions, which makes people think about what they can touch and what they can’t. Within the collection are different thoughtful poems, like "The Sunken Garden," where nature is full of hidden things and ghosts are all around. There are also important poems like “The Little Salamander,” which shows how much someone wants to be free, and “The Old Men,” which thinks about getting old. Throughout the book, De la Mare uses magical words and comparisons to get people to wonder about the secrets of life, the world around them, and their own feelings. **
