Summary

"The Secret Adversary" by Agatha Christie is a thrilling mystery that introduces Tommy Beresford and Tuppence Cowley, two resourceful young Brits who are eager to find work, and adventure, in England after the first World War. Their paths cross, and they decide to become business partners, calling themselves "The Young Adventurers, Ltd." Their lives become more interesting when they begin hunting for a missing woman named Jane Finn, who seems to hold the key to some very important, secret war documents. The quest begins with a dramatic event on the RMS Lusitania, with someone handing over mysterious papers to an American girl moments before the ship goes down. These events spark a series of investigations for the duo who encounter different characters, each with their own secrets, as they look into the mystery surrounding Finn to locate these papers.

About the Author

Dame Agatha Mary Clarissa Christie, Lady Mallowan, was a British author known for her 66 detective novels and 14 short story collections, particularly those revolving around fictional detectives Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple. She also wrote the world's longest-running play, the murder mystery The Mousetrap, which has been performed in the West End of London since 1952. A writer during the "Golden Age of Detective Fiction", Christie has been called the "Queen of Crime"—a moniker which is now trademarked by her estate—or the "Queen of Mystery". She also wrote six novels under the pseudonym Mary Westmacott. In 1971, she was made a Dame (DBE) by Queen Elizabeth II for her contributions to literature. Guinness World Records lists Christie as the best-selling fiction writer of all time, her novels having sold more than two billion copies.
