Summary

"Planet of Doom" by Stephen Marlowe is a science fiction story highlighting a reporter’s daring effort to cover the end of a world. When Mandmoora is threatened by its sun turning into a nova, galactic reporter Jane Crowley journeys against the grain to reveal the plight of the sun-worshipping society who resist evacuation. She accompanies her friend Sid Masters, ignoring military orders, and gets to the island of believers to capture their final moments on film. As the crisis intensifies, Jane is caught in a conflict that will ultimately save the Mandmooran's lives, as it is revealed that unwavering faith can yield both destruction and hope. Her empathy and bravery eventually lead to their last-minute rescue after she saves the chief's son, guiding the community away from their fanaticism and toward safety.
