Summary

"The Rise of the Dutch Republic — Volume 09: 1564-65" by John Lothrop Motley is a story about a country fighting for its freedom in the 1500s. It tells how the Netherlands struggled against Spain's Philip II, whose tough rules caused big problems. Important people like William of Orange and Count Egmont tried to make things better, but they faced corruption and cruelty. As more and more Protestants were hurt and even killed, the people of the Netherlands got angrier and angrier, setting the stage for a huge fight against the Spanish king's power.
