Summary

"Christmas Every Day and Other Stories" by William Dean Howells is a compilation of tales crafted for young readers during the late 1800s. The anchor story follows a young girl whose greatest wish is to experience Christmas every day, which sets off a series of funny and thought-provoking events that question true happiness and overindulgence. As the little girl goes on her adventure, the exploration of family, affection, and the effects of greed is introduced, as she discovers the importance of balance and gratitude for the holiday. The first story begins when the little girl asks her dad for a story, which inspires him to share a fantastic story about a fairy who makes sure she has Christmas every day. At first, the little girl is excited and overjoyed to celebrate Christmas each day, but soon the celebrations become overwhelming and challenging for everyone. As the family deals with the craziness of constant Christmas festivities, the story cleverly shows how the little girl comes to terms with what her wish has caused and eventually changes her mind in a touching ending.
