Summary

"The Laugh Maker" by James Oliver Curwood is a story about Bobby McTabb, a beloved man known for his good humor, whose life takes an unexpected turn when he leaves his town with money he didn't earn fairly; it's a journey about finding happiness, figuring out who you are, and making up for past wrongs. After gaining the trust of the people in Fawcettville, Bobby runs off with their money, which starts an exciting adventure filled with challenges and personal growth in the wild. Along the way, Bobby changes, both in body and mind, becoming someone new named J. Wesley Brown. When he meets Kitty Duchene, whom he cares for, he struggles with telling her about his past. The truth comes out in a surprising moment at a carnival. In the end, Bobby goes back to Fawcettville to pay back what he took, fixing his relationships and proving the strength of the community's love for him.
