Summary

"Hollyhock: A Spirit of Mischief" by L. T. Meade is a children's book that tells of two families in the Upper Glen, the Lennoxes and the Constables, enjoying a happy life in the early 1900s. The book mainly stars a girl named Hollyhock, also known as Jacqueline, who is known for her brave personality and her five sisters. Everything is turned upside down with news of a significant change as Aunt Agnes Delacour comes to visit with a plan. This plot establishes the carefree lives of the children, their strong bonds, and their innocent good times, but reveals the tension as Aunt Agnes’s visit nears with her educational plans. The story builds around Hollyhock’s playful and naughty resistance to leaving her usual life, hinting at a conflict with the adult world and highlighting the loss of childhood innocence.
