Summary

"The Cruise of the Dolphin" by Thomas Bailey Aldrich is a captivating story about growing up in the late 1800s, centered on a group of Rivermouth boys’ shared affection for the ocean, who pool their resources to buy a small sailboat called the Dolphin. In anticipation for summer, Tom Bailey and his friends embark on a cruise to Sandpeep Island, full of enthusiasm for a day of camaraderie and fishing, but these dreams are tragically cut short by an unforeseen storm. Binny Wallace, one of the boys, is swept away by the storm, leaving the remaining friends to face the daunting reality of their loss as they navigate back to their town. The narrative weaves together themes of innocence, the power of nature, and the fragility of life, transforming a youthful maritime adventure into a stark lesson about the unpredictable nature of fate.
