"Modeste Mignon" by Honoré de Balzac is a story set in a small French town in the early 1800s about a young woman named Modeste Mignon, and her family. The story opens in October 1829 and shows Modeste wanting more from her life and love and the lengths that some people are going to, to get to her. The characters around her, like her mother, Madame Mignon, and a very loyal cashier named Dumay, will do anything to protect her, while a plan unfolds to guide her to love.
