Summary

"Samantha at the St. Louis Exposition" by Marietta Holley is a funny story set long ago, focused on Samantha and Josiah Allen's trip to the St. Louis Exposition, celebrating the Louisiana Purchase. The book talks about wanting more, being proud, and how different small towns are from the rest of the world back then. Early on, Samantha notices Josiah is really focused on planning a party for their home at the same time as the Exposition. He starts acting strangely, looking at old papers and making secret plans with his friends about the land's past. While Josiah is dreaming big, Samantha tries to keep him grounded and stop his crazy ideas from happening. The back-and-forth between them shows Samantha's cleverness and down-to-earth attitude against Josiah's big dreams, getting ready for a funny trip to the Exposition involving comedic travel and geography.
