"The Efficiency Expert" by Edgar Rice Burroughs is a story about a young, athletic man named Jimmy Torrance, who is experiencing the difficulties of moving from college life to the working world. As Jimmy is about to finish college, he has to deal with the fact that he isn't ready for the job market and owes a lot of money. The story shows his goals, how he learns about himself, and the hard parts of becoming an adult. At first, Jimmy is a great boxer at his college and everyone likes him. But then, he is warned by the college leader because his grades are not good, so he might not graduate; this makes Jimmy understand he needs to focus on more than just sports. After graduating, Jimmy goes to Chicago to find a job, but it's harder than he thought. Even though he is sure of himself and wants to do well, he keeps getting turned down, which makes him think about taking jobs that might not be honest.
